Runs small, doesn't look finished

I ordered the blue dress in XL and so glad I did. It fits like medium. The dress is beautiful and the fabric is soft and beautiful.
However, the dress I got the seam on the dress doesn't look finished. It's like a surged seam, where you see inside of dress is on the outside. I had to fix it by flipping it over and stitching it, which was no problem.
